Akira Kei and Kaneda Production Cel with Animation Drawing Group of 3 (Tokyo Movie Shinsha, 1988). "Kaneda! You're alive!" From the anime film Akira, we have in this lot a terrific hand-painted production cel featuring Kei and Kaneda from one of the final scenes in the movie. This adaptation of the manga by the legendary Katsuhiro Otomo was also directed by the manga artist, released in Japanese theaters on July 16, 1988, and gathered a cult-following overseas due to its incredible animation and fascinating narrative. This 14" x 9" production cel shows Kei, wearing Kaneda's red jacket, with an image size of 2.5" x 6.75", while Kaneda is shown standing at 2" x 5", both appearing at the 1:59:28 timestamp. The cel also comes with the layer showing Kai's pants as he runs towards Kaneda after realizing he survived, occupying an image area of 5.25" x 8.75". The lot includes the matching animation drawings for the cel layers, showing the characters rendered in graphite and color pencils on 13.75" x 9.25" animation sheets. A Streamline Pictures COA is included with this lot. The cel is displayed on a printed background for presentation purposes, taped to it with archival artist tape. The cel has its layers adhered together and shows some fading on the linework. Paint residue can be seen on Kaneda's drawing. In overall Very Good condition with light handling and edge wear from production.Auction Info
