Description
Akira Kaneda Production Cel with Master Background (Tokyo Movie Shinsha, 1988). "Got him!" We have in this lot a spectacular image featuring the intrepid leader of the Capsule Gang as seen at the 1:35:21 mark of the movie Akira, as he shoots Tetsuo with a beam rifle. Kaneda, wearing his signature red outfit, measures 6.5" tall, holding the beam rifle on the hand-painted 13.75" x 9" production cel, numbered A14 END in the top right corner, marking this as the last cel used in the sequence. This terrific image of Kaneda is enhanced by the stellar Master background of the Olympic Stadium, seen at the 1:50:40 mark of the film. Although taken from two different parts of the movie, the cel and the Master background work together perfectly, granting this lot a unique look. The cel shows light surface scratches that don't affect the art and light fading on the linework. The Master background shows pinholes on the corners, water wear near the bottom right corner, and slight wrinkling on the top corner.
