Description

Akira Kaneda Production Cel with Custom/Presentation Background (Tokyo Movie Shinsha, 1988). Created by the celebrated mangaka Katsuhiro Otomo, Akira is one of the most important films in anime history, with a permeating influence to this day in anime, video games, movies, and TV series. At the 1:23:51 mark of the movie, Kaneda gets on his motorcycle, determined to stop a Tetsuo driven to madness by his newly acquired powers. This superb image of Kaneda on his emblematic red motorcycle measures an image size of 9.25" x 7" on the 13.75" x 9" hand-painted production cel, which is numbered A5 in the top right corner. The incredible details in the production cel, like the airbrushed effect on the windshield and the shadow of the motorcycle, as well as the the kinetic lines on the tire, are great examples of the enormous attention to detail put into the production of this unique animated film. The sensational image of the leader of the Capsules is shown on the meticulously rendered custom presentation background, done in gouache on background board measuring 15.5" x 11.5". Cels of this sensational film are highly coveted, and the addition an incredible custom/presentation background grants the cel a great complete look, extremely similar to the one in the film. Included are a Japan Anime & Manga Appraisal Committee Registration Certificate and an Akira Committee Certificate of Authenticity. The cel shows very light surface scratches that don't affect the art. The background and the cel show very minimal handling wear from production use, and both are in Very Good condition.
