Akira Kaneda Production Cel and Animation Drawing (Tokyo Movie Shinsha, 1988). "Tetsuo..." From one of the final scenes in Katsuhiro Otomo's animated adaptation of his pivotal manga series Akira, we have in this lot an incredible hand-painted production cel of Kaneda. This unforgettable image of our protagonist appears at about the 1:58:44 mark in the film, as he returns to Neo-Tokyo after recounting Tetsuo's memories, following the film's captivating climax. Numbered A34 in the top right corner, this 13.75" x 9" production cel shows Kaneda measuring an outstanding figure size of 9" x 8.25", displayed on a printed background for representation purposes. The lot is accompanied by the cel's matching animation drawing, rendering the stupendous picture in graphite and colored pencils. Mild fading can be seen on the cel's linework. The cel is taped to the background with archival artist tape. The shining sphere is part of the printed background. Overall, minor handling and edge wear from production can be seen on the lot. The drawing is in Good to Very Good condition, presenting some paint residue from the cel. The cel is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
