Akira Akira Production Cel, Animation Drawing, and Studio-Printed Layout Group of 4 (Tokyo Movie Shinsha, 1988). The titular character from the cult classic anime film Akira makes a rare appearance in this lot, showing a hand-painted production cel and an animation drawing of the extremely powerful Esper. Although scarcely seen during the movie, the impact of this character is gigantic, as he is the one behind the iconic explosion seen during the opening scene. Numbered F22 in the top right corner, this stupendous 14" x 9" cel shows Akira measuring 5.25" x 5.25" with medical electrodes on him, as he appears during the famous flashback at the 1:53:55 timestamp. This cel is displayed on a studio-printed copy of the layout for the background, taped to it with archival artist tape. Included is the matching animation drawing for Akira, done in graphite and color pencils, and two additional studio-printed layouts featuring the layout for Akira and the waveform of the monitor. Some fading can be seen on the cel linework. A Streamline Pictures COA is included with the lot. The animation drawing presents some paint residue from the cel. The studio-printed layout copies have the peghole areas taped to their top edges. Overall, the lot presents minor handling and edge wear from production. In Very Good condition.Auction Info
