Description

Abusement Park Popeye, Bluto, and Olive Oyl Production Cel with Master Background (Famous Studios, 1947). "Atta boy, Popeye! Sock 'im good, good, good!" Bluto and Popeye compete in various amusement park contests for Olive Oyl's affections in the hilarious Popeye the Sailor theatrical short Abusement Park. The story culminates in a high-flying roller coaster chase sequence (involving elephants, poor Olive Oyl, and rope) in which Popeye finally eats his spinach and saves the day. Directed by Isadore Sparber with Famous Studios, this short was released on 4/25/1947. Seen at the 6:14 mark of the short, this is a remarkable original 16 field production cel, hand-inked and hand-painted. This piece is presented on an original Master production background rendered in gouache on background board, seen at the 4:59 mark of the film. The backgrounds of the film are credited to Anton Loeb. An unbelievably rare Master setup from the classic 1947 Popeye cartoon, this piece is a must-have for any discerning animation collector. It's a great image of the iconic trio from a climactic spinach scene, framed under glass with a mat window size of 13.25" x 10.25" and an overall frame size of 19.5" x 16.5". Frame is sold as-is. Minor handling with light professional restoration, and the condition of this rare 1940s Master Popeye setup is Very Good.
