Description
101 Dalmatians Pongo and Jasper Production Cel Setup with Preliminary Master Background (Walt Disney, 1961). "Horace!" Pongo struggles with Jasper, causing his pants to fall down in this fantastic hand-painted original production cel from 101 Dalmatians. Seen at the 57:10 mark of the film, this cel is displayed on a rare preliminary Master production background. Background art of the film is credited to Al Dempster, Ralph Hulett, Anthony Russo, and Bill Layne under the color styling of Walt Peregoy. This film was the first ever to utilize xerography to create the linework on the cels, and the Disney studio experimented with the process to create linework cel overlays on the backgrounds to create the distinctive style seen throughout the film. This background was likely created for the scene beginning at the 1:03:58 mark of the film, in which the Dalmatians take refuge in a cow barn. It is rendered in gouache on board with a linework cel overlay. The 16 field setup shows overall minor handling and edge wear from normal studio use, and the cel is numbered 20. The background cel bears the sequence and scene numbers 008 and 21.1. The condition of this rare find is Very Good.Auction Info
