Description

Cinderella Studio-Used Script Drafts, Notes, and Concept Prints Group of 90 (Walt Disney, 1950). "[Ken O'Connor] was what they called a layout man and art director, so he would take scripts and he would stage the whole action for the animated film, whether it was a feature or a short," reflects his daughter in a 2012 interview. From the personal archive of that very Disney Legend layout artist and director, Ken O'Connor (1908 - 1998), comes expansive collection of studio-used script drafts, notes, and concept prints primarily associated with the production of Sequence 2.5 of Disney's 1950 classic Cinderella. Known for designing the iconic pumpkin coach and modeling the Fairy Godmother after his beloved wife Mary Alice, O'Connor applied his talents as a layout artist for this feature. This unique collection showcases 6 concept prints ranging in size from 15.5" x 12.75" to 22" x 17" and detailing the chateau's grand staircase and Cinderella's comparably stark tower chamber, joined by a large selection of scripts and notes primarily for the "Sisters' Bedroom" noted as Seq. 2.5 which can be viewed beginning near the 39:00 timestamp. The sheets related to that sequence include 7 inter-office communications on pink paper (2 are onionskin) measuring 8.5" x 11" with two trimmed to half-sheets; sweatbox notes from preliminary animatic/rough drawing screenings presented on onionskin paper with 4 full-sized 8.5" x 13" sheets and 12 half-sized 8.5" x 6.75" sheets accompanied by 6 sheets of small hand-written notes measuring 4" x 5" and 6" x 8.25"; three 8.5" x 13" animation shooting script drafts including the 1st tentative draft (8 pages on onionskin) and final drafts 1 and 2 both 7 pages in length; a 16-page live-action shooting script printed on 10" x 12" vertically aligned 12 field animation paper; and a 4-page dialogue scrip on standard 8.5" x 11" letter paper. Rounding out the lot, from the iconic and memorable Fairy Godmother's introductory sequence (seen beginning near the 41:49 timestamp) comes a 13-page shooting script rough draft also on standard 8.5" x 11" letter paper. The notes and scripts are all dated throughout 1948 and 1949, and many bear the names of additional Disney Legends who contributed to the feature alongside O'Connor. With typical handling and edge wear including age-related toning, fold creases, pinholes, surface wrinkles with minor edge tearing, and light surface wear/debris, overall this rare collection from the personal archive of a Disney Legend is in Good condition.
