    Description

The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show Mr. Peabody and Sherman Signed Scene Cel (Jay Ward, 1989). Mr. Peabody and Sherman were stars of "Peabody's Improbable History" segment of the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. It premiered in 1959 with the Ben Franklin episode and ultimately ran for 91 hysterically historical episodes. This is a hand-painted Scene cel of Mr. Peabody and Sherman. Jay Ward studios animated their shows in Mexico and virtually none of the original production cels survived. To meet the demand of collectors, Scene cels were created and sold at the Dudley Do-Right Emporium located next to Jay Ward Studio on Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood. This is a rare early Peabody and Sherman Scene cel, signed by studio head Jay Ward (1920-1989). Cels like this were not normally signed, but if Mr. Ward happened to be in the shop he would gladly autograph them. Adding to its rarity is Sherman's blond hair which was normally red. The characters measure approximately 4" and 5" tall respectively. The piece is in a 14" x 11" mat, with an opening of 11.75" x 8.75". The mat is slightly discolored. Condition is Very Good.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
