Description

Tarzan Presentation Cel and Key Master Background Setup (Walt Disney, 1999). "He's alive! He's alive! He's ali - you idiot! You nearly gave me a heart attack, ya happy?" Tantor and Terk can't believe that Tarzan survived and that he actually got the elephant hair. Twenty years ago, Tarzan premiered at the El Capitan theater and is considered to be the last of the Disney Renaissance films. It was a box office smash and had spinoffs on Broadway, television and two direct-to-video sequels. No cels were used to make the film, so presentation cels made from the original production drawings were hand-painted at the Disney's Ink and Paint Department and paired with original hand-painted production backgrounds. These one-of-a-kind setups were sold at the Art of Tarzan auction in New York on June 29, 2000. This is lot #39 from that sale and it shows young Tarzan proudly displaying the elephant hair. This is a four-layer setup containing two hand-painted production underlay cels measuring 12.5" x 17". The artwork is framed to 23" x 19.5" with a matboard aperture of 14.25" x 10.25". Frame sold as-is. Artwork condition is Fine.
