    Description

Super Rabbit Bugs Bunny Exhibition Cel Framed Set-Up (Warner Brothers, 1943/2007). Released on April 3, 1943, Super Rabbit was a parody of the very popular Superman comic character. This was the 16th Bugs Bunny theatrical short and the 47th Warner Brothers cartoon directed by one Charles M. "Chuck" Jones. The short poked fun at the usual Superman tropes, up to and including changing costumes in a phone booth. (In the closing scene, Bugs goes into a phone booth and changes into a Marine. Due to this scene, the USMC officially inducted him as a private, with dog tags and everything. By the time he was discharged he had been promoted to a Master Sergeant.) Linda Jones Enterprises created this unique hand-inked and hand-painted cel with a scene of Bugs as Super Rabbit as part of a traveling exhibit of Chuck Jones' work. The 16-field cel is placed over a hand-painted background and is magnificently placed in a museum-quality frame with an image area of approximately 15" x 12". Bugs measures 6" x 4", and a Chuck Jones estate signature is printed on the cel. Please note: This cel was used to publish a commemorative comic convention poster in 2010. A letter of authenticity verifying this cel as a one-of-a-kind exhibition cel is included. In Fine condition. From the Chuck Jones Collection.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
