Description

Rocky and Bullwinkle Scene Cel with Painted Background (Jay Ward, c. 1980s-90s). "A thunder of jets in an open sky, a streak of gray and a cheerful... Hi!" This was the opening narrative of Rocky and Friends back in 1959, and here they are again - Rocky and his pal Bullwinkle (with his later red/orange color scheme favored by Jay Ward after the series ended) in a classic pose. As there are practically no actual production cels that still exist from this beloved animated series, Scene cels were made to fill the demand; they were sold exclusively at the Dudley Do-Right Emporium on Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood from 1971 to 2005. They were hand-inked and hand-painted by a former Disney Ink and Paint lady, Helen Hanson. The two characters have a combined image area of approximately 8" x 7", and there's a Jay Ward seal in the lower right corner. The two-tone purple background is a 12 field production piece from an unspecified cartoon. The cel and background are matted with an opening of 8.5" x 11"; the mat has an overall size of 15.5" x 18". The condition is Very Good to Fine with light handling wear.
