Description

Rocky and Bullwinkle "Message in a Bottle" Scene Cel (Jay Ward, 1990). "Look, Bullwinkle! A message in a bottle!" "Fan mail from some flounder?" "No! This is what I really call a message!" This incredible hand-inked and hand-painted Scene cel was inspired by a long-running bumper scene on the show, designed to introduce a commercial message; in later reruns, it served as the introduction to an animated segment like Bullwinkle's Corner or Mister Know-It-All. What it really introduced was one of the show's most famous and quotable lines - especially Bullwinkle's "flounder" remark! Scene cels were made and sold at the legendary Dudley Do-Right Emporium, located at 8200 Sunset Boulevard and open from 1971 until 2005. This 12 field single cel image has the water background painted on, and includes a paper blue sky background print, added to complete the scene. It's an amazing piece and includes a Jay Ward Productions Inc. seal in the lower right, complete with a small caricature of Jay. The orange and red Bullwinkle and Rocky with the bottle are riding a rowboat with an overall combined image area of approximately 9.25" x 6.25" (including the fishing gear). The cel is in Very Good to Fine condition with light handling wear.
