Pocahontas John Smith and Thomas Presentation Cel and Master Production Background Setup (Walt Disney, 1995). "Reef the topsails! Steady the course! It's all right, Thomas! We'll get her tied off." John Smith comes to the aid of Thomas as they secure the cannon in a heavy storm. You will see this scene around the 2:20 mark near the beginning of Pocahontas, the 33rd animated film from Walt Disney Feature Animation. This extraordinary setup was created for initial sale in the Art of Pocahontas Auction held in NY on 2/24/96 as Lot 6. This is a four-layer setup which includes a gorgeous hand-painted background, a production cel overlay and three hand-painted presentation character cels. The cels were hand-inked and hand-painted at the world-famous Disney Ink and Paint Department on the studio lot. The overlay production cel includes some beautiful airbrush work creating the intense storm effect. Outstanding! The hand-painted background was painted on background board of 12.5" x 36".
