Cap'n Crunch Publicity Cel and Studio Painted Background (Jay Ward, c. 1960's/70's). "En Garde!" This swashbuckling polar bear was created to promote Cap'n Crunch's Frozen Delights, a product that never made it to shelves. Almost nothing is known about this mysterious character who is presumably lost to advertising history, but it's clear by the look of him that he is a true Jay Ward Studios creation. The enormous hand-inked and hand-painted character measures 7.5" x 10.5" and is presented over a hand-painted studio background of the deck of Cap'n Crunch's ship The S.S. Guppy. This artwork once hung in the offices of a former Marketing Director for Quaker Oats. Jay Ward collectors know that actual art from the studio is incredibly rare and a cel on a hand-painted studio background showcasing an unknown character makes this a one of a kind piece! It is matted and framed under glass with a mat opening of 8.25" x 11.5" in a frame measuring 13.75" x 16.5". Frame is scratched and sold as-is; otherwise, condition is Fine.
