Description

Black Jack Black Jack, Pinoko, Saburo Taneda, and Princess Ikehata Publicity Cel Setup with Key Master Background (Tezuka Productions, 1996). Hanken cels, or publicity cels, are very sought after in the collectors' community because of their scarcity, and they are made by the most experienced members of an animation studio. This magnificent cel has the prodigious physician Black Jack accompanied by his assistant Pinoko, as well as presenting Saburo Taneda and Princess Ikehata next to a Hanya mask, from the sixth episode of the Black Jack original video animation series. This spectacular hand-painted hanken cel measures an outstanding image size of 12.5" x 18.75", displaying the cold village where Black Jack is asked to help, as seen on the cover of the second DVD volume of the OVA series. The setup is presented on a two-layered Key Master background, one layer presenting the stairs where Pinoko is standing and the bottom layer depicting the sky, both rendered in gouache on background board with a size of 15" x 21.25". This absolutely stellar piece is a fantastic example of everything that makes a hanken cel so desirable, from the stunning rendering of the detailed characters to the sensational composition of the elements. Fans of this Osamu Tezuka series don't want to miss this one! The lot comes with a printed copy of the DVD cover and a Japan Anime & Manga Appraisal Committee Registration Certificate. The cels of the setup show very light surface scuffing that doesn't affect the art. The lot shows overall very light handling wear, and is in Very Good condition.
