Description

Beauty and the Beast Cogsworth Presentation Cel (Walt Disney, 1991). "And, as I always say, if it's not Baroque, don't fix it." Says the enchanted pendulum clock, Cogsworth in Walt Disney's 30th animated feature film, Beauty and the Beast. As the Beast's major-domo, Cogsworth is in charge of all the enchanted castle servants. This is a fantastic image of Cogsworth seen in the film near the 43:30 time mark when he and Lumieré take Belle on her first tour of the castle. This is a 16 field two-layer presentation cel setup. The suits of armour are painted on the second level with Cogs work on the top layer. The cels were hand-painted at the Disney Studios' Ink and Paint Department in Burbank for a VIP Disney exhibition. They contain a Disney seal in the lower right and are presented over a background copy for presentation purposes. The film was nearly completely hand-drawn on paper that was then scanned, painted and composited via computer, there are no production cels, making presentation cels like this one so valued and prized by collectors. This setup comes to auction from the private collection of Feature Animations' first president Peter Schneider who is largely credited with turning the animation department around and ushering the Disney Renaissance. It's a fantastic piece of animation art with great provenance. In Very Good condition.
From the President of Disney Feature Animation (1986 - 1999) Peter Schneider Collection.
