Walt Disney's Fantasia Book with Disney Studio Animation Artists' Signatures (Abradale/Abrams, 1987). Author John Culhane's handsome out-of-print book is one of the finest studies of the creation of a single Disney animated feature. Culhane's exhaustive research in the Walt Disney Archives focused on the story and idea meetings Walt Disney held with Leopoldville Stokowski, Deems Taylor, and his Studio's filmmakers to select the musical compositions and visualize them in animation for the screen. Each section of the film is described in a separate chapter that provides fascinating insights into the challengers each presented and how Disney and his talented artists and engineers master them.
The book has been signed by the following Disney Studio artists, all whom worked on Fantasia: Ollie Johnson (supervising animator, one of Disney's Nine Old Men); Bill Justice (animator); Ray Patterson (animator); Joe Grant (story direction); Thor Putnam (art director); Ward Kimball (supervising animator, one of Disney's Nine Old Men); Don Lusk (animator), J. Gordon Legg (art director); Al Demster (backgrounds); Berny Wolf (animator), and Stan Spohn (backgrounds).
The book is illustrated throughout in full color and black and white with behind-the-scenes photographs plus paintings and drawings created during production of the film. Included is a Certificate of Authenticity. Excellent condition.
