Leon Schlesinger Letter to Hugh Harman and Rudolph Ising (1933). What we have here is an important bit of animation history. The Harman-Ising team, formerly animators on Walt Disney's Alice comedies, were the first creative team hired by Leon Schlesinger's new animation department at Warner Brothers. They brought with them their own copyrighted character, Bosko, who starred in the very first WB Looney Tunes cartoon, Sinking in the Bathtub, in 1930. Bosko became the company's first animated star, and the team went on to develop the color Merrie Melodies line in addition to Looney Tunes. All was not well though -- Schlesinger refused to budge on the the team's demand for bigger budgets, and by 1933, they were out. This 8/2/33 letter, on Leon Schlesinger Productions/Warner Brothers stationery, indicated the final payment in full (a whopping $3,072.57, which was good money back then) to Harman and Ising, who would eventually go on to bigger things over at MGM. The letter is signed by all three. It's interesting to note the banner on the left that advertises "Western Dramas Starring John Wayne and 'Duke'" ("Duke" was, at the time, the name of Wayne's horse). Overall Good condition, with some paper tanning and a small corner tear.
