Description

Disneyland - "Matterhorn Bobsleds" 36" x 54" Hand-Pulled Silk-Screened Park Attraction Poster (Walt Disney, 1959). A vibrant, hard-to-find silk-screened attraction poster for Disneyland's Matterhorn Bobsleds in Fantasyland, designed by Paul Hartley. The bold marquee promise-"Race thru Alpine Passes and Ice Caverns!"-anchors this hand-pulled serigraph, whose crisp registration and saturated inks evoke the thrills of the world's first tubular steel continuous-track coaster. Debuting June 14, 1959, the Matterhorn's twin interlacing tracks, forced perspective, and periodic Swiss mountaineer "climbers" made it an instant icon. Hartley's composition frames the jagged Alpine peak (inspired by the Swiss-Italian border mountain) with sleek bobsled silhouettes, distilling Tomorrowland-era innovation and Fantasyland whimsy into a single, kinetic image. Documented in Poster Art of the Disney Parks by Danny Handke and Vanessa Hunt (p. 79), this large-format serigraph remains among the park's most collectible graphics. Poster is dry-mounted to 36" x 54" foam core for stability and easy display. Exhibits edge wear and corner damage (easily concealed by matting and frame); otherwise presents strongly. Overall condition is Good. A striking, era-defining serigraph that captures the spirit of Disneyland's 1959 expansion.
