Description

Disneyland - "Mark Twain's Riverboat" 36" x 54" Hand-Pulled Silk-Screened Park Attraction Poster (Walt Disney, 1955). Vintage silk-screened serigraph attraction poster for Frontierland's "Mark Twain's Riverboat," designed by Björn Aronson. The marquee text proclaims: "Colorful exciting adventures aboard the 'Mark Twain' the River Pirate Keel Boats and Indian War Canoes - All in Frontierland." Hand-pulled with rich, layered inks and crisp registration, the poster measures an impressive 36" x 54" and is offered rolled. Documented in The Poster Art of the Disney Parks by Danny Handke and Vanessa Hunt (p. 52), this design stands among Disneyland's most evocative mid-century wayfinding graphics. The Mark Twain Riverboat-originally the Mark Twain Steamboat at the park's 1955 opening-is a stately 5/8-scale Mississippi stern-wheeler carrying guests on a scenic 12-minute voyage around the Rivers of America. Aronson's poster also trumpets two Frontierland side adventures: the Indian War Canoes and the River Pirate Keel Boats (the Mike Fink Keel Boats), free-floating craft named Gullywhumper and Bertha Mae that once circled Tom Sawyer Island in homage to Disney's Davy Crockett television episodes. A striking, large-format serigraph that captures the romance of America's frontier waterways. Minor handling and edge wear consistent with age. Overall vintage Good condition-a superb display piece.
