Description

Pom Poko Production Cel with Key Master Background (Studio Ghibli, 1994). "If you don't want to be so accident-prone, keep off our forests and we'll leave you alone! Amen!" Gonta gets in formation with a crew of fellow tanuki, or raccoon dogs, in this wonderful hand-painted original production cel from the Studio Ghibli animated feature Pom Poko. Directed by Isao Takahata, Pom Poko tells the story of a group of tanuki as they struggle to take back their land from human urban development. This incredible hand-painted original production cel from the film is presented on its beautiful Key Master background rendered in gouache on board. Backgrounds on the film are attributed to art director Kazuo Oga, often credited as a major player in the rich environmental aesthetics and style of Studio Ghibli films. This moment can be seen at the 1:37:26 mark of Pom Poko. The cel bears the production numbers S-75 and C-12 at the top and the number A-1 in the upper right corner. The setup as a whole measures 15" x 10.5", and it shows minor handling and edge wear from studio use. The background shows evidence of tape in the upper corners and near the bottom edge, and it has pinholes in the corners. This piece can be seen on page 103 of the German Film Institute's gallery exhibition book Ga-Netchu! The Manga Anime Syndrome. The condition overall is Very Good.
