DescriptionPluto and the Armadillo Mickey Mouse Production Cel Courvoisier Setup (Walt Disney, 1943). "Down where the Amazon winds its way through the heart of Brazil, we find many strange and exotic species of flora and fauna." Walt Disney's "El Grupo" goodwill tour of Mexico and South America inspired more than just The Three Caballeros and Saludos Amigos feature films. In this Clyde Geronimi-directed short, Mickey Mouse and Pluto are "Tourista Americanos" in South America, where a mix-up with Pluto's ball introduces them to an "exotic" rolled-up armadillo. This great Courvoisier setup is quite rare in that any production art from Pluto and the Armadillo is very tough to locate. The setup includes trimmed-to-outline images of Mickey Mouse, as seen at the 2:02 mark, as he gets ready to toss the ball for Pluto to fetch; the armadillo smiling coyly is from the 2:57 mark; she's actually with Pluto in this scene. The two elements work well together with Mickey looking as if he's about to pet the armadillo. The images are placed on a gorgeous Courvoisier custom painted background, in gouache on board. Mickey's figure size is about 3.25", and the un-matted setup has an overall size of 9" x 7.75". The trimmed cels have been laminated; Mickey's paint has a slight "crumpled" look on his face and pith helmet, but the paint is all there. The original Courvoisier label is included. Good condition.
