Plane Crazy Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse in Plane Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1928-29). The historic short Plane Crazy was first shown as a silent film to a test audience on May 15, 1928, making it technically the first-ever Mickey Mouse cartoon release. It was co-directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks (1909 – 1971). Ub reportedly worked six weeks straight on this short, with help from Hugh Harmon and Rudy Ising. Sound was later added to the short, and it was formally released to the general public on March 17, 1929 as the fourth Mickey Mouse theatrical short. This is a rare 12 field 2-peghole animation drawing of Mickey and Minnie in the airplane. In the short, Minnie is in the plane which is running on the ground in wild abandon. Mickey finally jumps in to save her, and the plane takes off, spiraling into the sky. You can see this around the 4:02 mark. Art is in graphite, with the number 189 written in the lower right corner, with a blue stamped "27" on the reverse. Image is small but sweet, with an approximate overall size of 1.5" x 2.5". Wow, what a piece of animation history! Minor handling wear and some prior framing tape on the top edge. Very Good condition.
