    Description

Pinocchio Jiminy Cricket Production Cel on Master Production Background (Walt Disney, 1940). Walt Disney's classic film, Pinocchio marked Jiminy Cricket's debut and the little guy went on to appear on later features, theatrical shorts, educational films and Disney Wonderful World of color. He remains a mainstay of the studio's character roster to this day. Presented in this lot is an original hand-inked hand-painted production cel of Jiminy from his break-out role in Pinocchio. He measures 2.5" x 4" on a 16 field cel and can be seen around the 35:34 mark. It is presented over an original hand-painted background from the scene where he rests on the candle holder and weeps over the loss of Pinocchio at the 1:24:40 mark. The gouache and watercolor artwork is an absolute masterpiece from this highly dramatic and heartbreaking scene from Disney's second feature film. This incredibly rare 80-year-old setup was originally assembled by Courvoisier Galleries and comes with one of their stickers taken from the original frame. It is in a 20" x 16" mat with a 13" x 9" opening. The piece shows minor handling and the cel has been restored. Condition is Very Good.
