Pinocchio Character Model Statue (Walt Disney, 1940). Joe Grant's character model department produced character model statues from 1938 to the early 1940s. They were made to help all artists see three dimensions of a characters personality first hand. They were used for animation, set lighting reference, and consumer products merchandising. They were made in very small quantity. They usually were a painted plaster on a wire armature. They were painted by Walt Disney Studios ink and paint department. This amazing thinking Pinocchio is marked #11 on the base. It is significant that he is in green shorts, not the color used in the final film. This rare part of filmmaking history is from Les Clark's personal collection. Approximately 4.5" x 2.5" on grey base. The feather in Pinocchio's cap has been broken and glued back on improperly, but appears to be a easy fix; there's also a chip on the brim of his hat. Otherwise, in Fine condition, which is rare, considering the age of the piece. From the Les Clark Estate.
