DescriptionPinocchio Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1940). There are both advantages - and disadvantages of being made of wood. These become immediately apparent upon submersion in water...for one, being a magical puppet, no aqualung is necessary. But conversely, floating would be a problem. Pinocchio solves this problem by anchoring himself with a large stone. Having been partially transformed into a donkey, he now sports a long tasseled tail, and two pointy ears. Tying his tail around the stone, he plunges into the depths of the Mediterranean, in a dangerous quest to save his father from Monstro the whale. Considered by many to be second only to Snow White in terms of artistry and historical significance, this early feature effort from the Disney artists is considered to be the pinnacle of the animated film, especially as it pertains to effects animation. Dragging his heavy anchor behind him on the seabed, Pinocchio measures roughly 3" x 3.5" in this original animation drawing. He is rendered in graphite and colored pencil. The drawing is stamped "Prod. 2003, Seq. 10, Scene 7.1". With some minor handling and creasing, this drawing is in Very Good condition.
