    Woody Woodpecker and Friends Publicity Photo (Walter Lantz, c. 1940s). Walter Lantz (1899 - 1994) was given the Winsor McCay Lifetime Achievement Award in 1973 and an Academy Award Lifetime Achievement Award in 1979. In 1934/35 he became an Independent Producer, and set his sights on owning copyrights to characters and eventually starting his own studio. This is a great 1940s oversized Walter Lantz publicity photo on hard stock paper. It shows Walter Lantz with a bevy of his characters that include Andy Panda, Woody Woodpecker, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and others. Large photo of 14.5" x 19.5" with photo taking up 13.5" x 17". This great studio publicity photo is hand-signed by Walter Lantz in graphite at the bottom border. He dates it 1934, to indicate his beginnings. Minor handling and surface wear. Very Good condition.
