    Description

Peter Pan Storyboard Original Art Sequence of 12 (Walt Disney, 1953). Disney began developing Peter Pan in the late 1930s, but was shelved when World War II broke out. It was later revisited, produced and ultimately released in the winter of 1953. The list of artists and story people who worked on this film reads like a Who's Who of Disney talent including: Ted Sears, Erdman Penner, Winston Hibler, Joe Rinaldi, Milt Banta, Ralph Wright, Bill Contrell, and Bill Peet. This is a series of 12 original storyboards rendered in graphite and Conté taped to a 16 field 3-peghole sheet of animation paper. They showcase Wendy as she recounts to her family her adventures with Peter. The handwritten dialog includes fantastic quotes like, "We called him a codfish", "We sailed away on a ship in the sky", and "I knew Peter Pan." The individual panes range in size from 3" x 3.5" and 3" x 6". The artwork has a definite Bill Peet style. There is tape on corners of each panel and the paper shows pinholes and handling wear. Condition is Very Good.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
