Peter Pan and the Pirates Storybook Illustrations by Bob Moore Original Art Group of 3 (Walt Disney/Simon & Schuster, 1952). Disney Legend Bob Moore (1920 - 2001) was no stranger to Peter Pan. Although he did not work on the film, Bob drew the Dell comic book Peter Pan Treasure Chest, which was published in January, 1953. He also illustrated a number of Disney-themed storybooks like this Little Golden Book edition. Both this book (with a 1952 copyright date) and the Dell comic book came out before the film, which was released to theaters on February 5, 1953. Here is some amazing artwork from the storybook, painted in full color in gouache with airbrushed highlights on large illustration board panels. The first is seen on page 5 of the book, and shows Peter dueling with Captain Hook onboard the Jolly Roger, as the old crocodile nicknamed "Tick Tock" looks on with a grin. Image size is approximately 8" x 7.5". Pages 6 and 7 include an illustration of Hook with Mr. Smee and another pirate as they creep up on the hollow tree where Peter with Wendy and her bothers and two Lost Boys are making plans. Both pieces of this double-page spread are included; while they are on separate artboards, they fit together as a single image. The combined image area measures 18" x 10"; individual sizes are 9" x 7.5" for page 6, and 9" x 8.5" for page 7. Each artboard has an old piece of clear plastic film to protect the art. Condition is Very Good with minor handling and mild toning.
