Pantry Panic Woody Woodpecker Animation Drawings Group of 2 (Walter Lantz, 1941). After his initial appearance in a 1940 Andy Panda cartoon, Woody Woodpecker starred in a long series of shorts that ran from 1941 until the Lantz Studio closed, in 1972. Pantry Panic was the third cartoon in the series, first shown on 11/24/1941. In this pair of original 12 field 2-peghole animation drawings featuring the original green-eyed version of Woody, the hungry woodpecker applies catsup to the tale of an equally hungry alley cat, as each tries to devour the other. These rare drawings originally came for the estate of Laverne Harding (1905 – 1984). Ms. Harding was one of the first female animation artists, working for Walter Lantz Studios from 1934 until 1960. She was the artist who redesigned Woody into the more familiar version seen from 1951 until 1999. Ms. Harding was awarded the coveted Winsor McCay Award in 1980. The art is in graphite and red crayon, in drawings noted as 29 and 38. Figure sizes are approximately 5.5" on each. A screen grab print of one of the images in the cartoon (as seen at the 5:15 mark) is included. Very minor handling wear. Fine condition.
