We Aim to Please Popeye's Diner Master Production Background (Max Fleischer, 1934). "Service! I'll start with a half-dozen sandwiches!" orders Bluto as he enters Popeye and Olive Oyl's City Diner. This is an outstanding Master hand-painted production background of the inside of the diner. It is from the Dave Fleischer-directed cartoon that was released on 12/28/34. This was only the 17th theatrical Popeye cartoon! Popeye was voiced by William Costello and Olive by Mae Questel. You can see this image around the 3:07 mark. Any and all artwork from the early Popeye shorts is considered very rare. The background is painted in gouache on 3-peghole background board measuring 11" x 9". Top border reads Sc -7. Border notes read "remove sign from bkgd." Beautiful painting of the diner interior! This piece is shown in the book The Fleischer Story by Leslie Cabarga on page 147. Minor handling and edge wear. In Good condition.
