    Thelma Witmer Song of the South Painted Background Art Color Key (Walt Disney, 1946). Thelma Witmer (1901-1996) was one of the very few ranking Disney female artist during the Golden Art of animation, and indeed, she was Disney's first female background artist. Ms. Witmer began with Disney Studios in 1942 and worked through 1967. She finished her career painting backgrounds for Hanna-Barbera. This gorgeous color key features the meadow and lake where Br'er Rabbit lives in the Uncle Remus story. The detail in this miniature masterpiece is incredible as the painting is only 6.5" x 2.75" (gouache on paper). It is glass front framed to 15.5" x 12". In Fine condition.
