The Karnival Kid Production Background and New Minnie Mouse Silhouette Cel (Walt Disney, 1929/2001). "Hot dog! Hot dog!" These are the first real human words Mickey Mouse ever says on screen. In previous shorts, he made noises, like whistles, but no real dialog. This is a rare 12 field 2-peghole hand-painted production background from this short. It is one of the earliest backgrounds from a Mickey Mouse cartoon known to still exist. It can be seen at the "Minnie the Shimmy Dancer" opening at the 1:06 mark, as the curtain in front of Minnie. Background is marked in bottom border Scene 3 + 5. This is only the ninth Mickey Mouse short released. The cartoon was co-directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, and released on 5/23/29. A new cel of the silhouette of Minnie the Shimmy Dancer was made in 2001 for this 1929 production background. It was displayed at the "Walt Disney: The Man and His Magic" exhibit at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum from May 13 to September 4, 2001. This exhibit was put on by The Walt Disney Family Foundation and Retlaw Enterprises. This rare black and white production background measures 11.5" x 9.5". The new cel of Minnie's shadow is 8". A 1929 Mickey Mouse production background is rare! Very Good condition.
