    Description

The Crackpot King Painted Backgrounds Group of 2 (Terrytoons, 1946). Here are two beautifully rendered original background paintings of a castle interior that would make great setups for any number of production cels. They come from the 35th Mighty Mouse cartoon, which was directed by Eddie Donnelly and released on 11/15/46. Both appear early on in the short; the one noted as 2 is the second scene, as the Crackpot King (his flag is the classic "screw-ball" design), and can be seen at the :22 mark, as trumpets announce his arrival. The second piece is noted as 7, and is immediately after the King summons a cat genie from his magic lamp. It can be found at the :41 mark. Both are beautifully detailed 12 field 3-peghole gouache/airbrush background paintings on lightweight board. Minor edge wear, with tape stains in the bottom corners; Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
