The Cookie Carnival Painted Background and Production/Color Model Cel Setup (Walt Disney, 1935). This cartoon paid homage to the Atlantic City Boardwalk Parade and Bathing Beauty contests of the 1920s and '30s (which eventually led to the Miss America pageant). It featured the Sugar Cookie Girl and her love, the Gingerbread Man. This Silly Symphony short was directed by Ben Sharpsteen, released on 5/25/35. Here is an outstanding hand-painted production background, from the opening parade scene. It's painted in gouache on background board, and can be seen around the :21 second mark, held on screen to the :35 second mark as the parade passes by. The background is attributed to the hand of Ferdinand Horvath (1891 - 1973). A production cel/color model of the Carnival crowd people from later in the film is included, making this a rare Silly Symphony Master Production Background setup. The setup is framed with glass, with a mat opening of 12" x 9"; overall frame size is 23" x 21". Background on its own is a stunning piece of artwork! Frame is sold as-is; art condition is Very Good.
