    Description

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad Sleepy Hollow Concept/Background Painting (Walt Disney, 1949). "Terrytown... and just beyond, nestled deep in a low approaching hills is a sequestered glen. It's a peaceful place, but somehow... Forbidden" says the narrator of this film, Bing Crosby. This is an outstanding concept/background painting of the town of Sleepy Hollow. We see a version of this in the film's opening dialogue and about 47:42 in to the film. The windmill and farm is amazing. Backgrounds in this film were painted by Art Reily, Ray Huffine, Brice Mack, Merle Cox, and Dick Anthony; color and styling was done by May Blair, Don DaGradi, Claude Coats, and John Hench. This gouache on light background board painting was originally sold at Christie's Animation Sale on 6/20/91 as lot 187. The painting is glass-front framed and matted with an opening of 15" x 11". Fine condition.
