DescriptionSomewhere in Egypt Painted Backgrounds Group of 2 (Terrytoons, 1943). This Mannie Davis-directed WWII-era cartoon had Gandy Goose and Sourpuss as soldiers stationed in Egypt. Gandy plays "Song of Egypt" on his piccolo, and Sourpuss dreams of falling into the Sphinx's open mouth. Here are a pair of original hand-painted 12 field backgrounds from this short, which was released on 9/17/43. The art is attributed to Anderson Craig (1904 - 1964). The first has the number 7 in the upper right corner, and shows Sourpuss and Gandy's army cots, with Gandy's songbook open to "Song of Egypt." The second is inside the Sphinx, with the number 17A in the upper margin; the larger stone on the left wall opens to reveal a floating sarcophagus. Two great pieces, in gouache on skimmed illustration board. These Terrytoons backgrounds cannot be seen in the online cartoons in sharp, detailed focus; each one is a real work of art on its own. Very minor handling wear; Very Good to Fine condition.
