    Description

Mystery in the Moonlight Painted Backgrounds Original Art Group of 2 (Terrytoons, 1948). "Did a black cat ever cross your path?" asks the narrator at the beginning of the Eddie Donnelly-directed short. "Beware -- one might!" This bizarre cartoon involves a bulldog and a mouse, who turns on the television late at night, only to see an angry black cat; soon, that very same cat arrives at the house to cause all sorts of trouble. These two hand-painted 12 field backgrounds are seen in this short. The first, noted as number 9 in the upper right, is a mouse hole and door that occurs at the 1:41 mark (on the YouTube version online). The second piece shows Fido's dog dish, and it has three numbers in the upper right, the first two crossed out: 11, 25, and 35. Sure enough, this is seen three times, at 1:56, 3:34, and 4:53 (the cat keeps lapping up milk in Fido's dish, in between chases). Both are painted in gouache on skimmed artboards. Very Good condition, with minor handling wear and staple holes along outer borders.
