Mulan Shan Yu and Emperor Presentation Cel Setup and Hand-Painted Production Background (Walt Disney, 1998). This film was the 36th Disney animated feature film, the ninth film in the Disney Renaissance, and was the first animated feature film to be made primarily in their Florida Disney/MGM Studios. A live-action remake is set for release in 2020. Hand-painted cels weren't used in its production, but hand-painted backgrounds with under and overlay cels were. An auction of Mulan artwork was held in New York City on March 6th, 1999 and in it were original production backgrounds with hand-painted presentation cels created from original production drawings placed over them. This is lot #24 from that sale and it features a 10" tall hand-painted image of the title character kneeling by a plant to let Cri-Kee out of his cage. This is a 6-cel setup with four production underlays which are part of the original background and all combined measure 17.5" x 13". The piece bears a Disney seal and comes complete with a COA on back of the 25" x 20" frame. Condition is Very Good. Frame is sold as-is.
