Mighty Mouse and the Pirates Production Background Art Group of 3 (Terrytoons, 1945). Although he appeared in human form in several early Terrytoons shorts, Oil Can Harry made his debut as a cat villain in this, the 17th Mighty Mouse cartoon, directed by Mannie Davis and Connie Rasinski. It was the first Terrytoons short for 1945, released to theaters on 1/12/45. Here are two original hand-painted production backgrounds from this cartoon, plus a blue sky backdrop piece that works with one of the hand-trimmed pieces, scenes from the pirate ship as seen at the beginning of the short. The first piece can be found at the 0:23 mark, while the second piece comes at the 0:27 mark. We've taped the backdrop to this second piece, using removable art tape to line up with rubber cement stains from where it was originally glued to the foreground. The blue sky backdrop is noted as 5. Art is in watercolor/gouache on skimmed 12 field boards. Condition is Fair to Good.
