Mickey's Man Friday Unused Remake Painted Background (Walt Disney, 1941). After the introduction of Technicolor, Disney planned on making new color versions of older black and white cartoons. First done was Orphans Benefit. The second one planned was 1935's Mickey's Man Friday. Due to the strike and/or World War II, this remake strategy was scrapped. This short had model sheets, animation drawings, and background paintings created. Mickey was going to wear a sailor suit in the remake, not his red shorts. This is an amazing hand-painted background that was done for the color remake. It almost mimics the black and white background. It can be seen in the black and white version at the 58 second mark. The color version is almost the same, only more developed with lush palm trees the only real difference. Background is 12" x 10". Pinholes in corner. Production number 2241 is written in bottom border. Back of background also has 2241 and Sc 10s/a 13 on back. This is a rare look into the studio's planning that was altered by historical events. Beautiful painting, in Fine condition.
