DescriptionMagpie Madness Painted Backgrounds Group of 2 (Terrytoons, 1948). In this Heckle and Jeckle cartoon, the dog Dimwit (aka Soupbone; he's named "Fido" on his doghouse and food bowl) gets blown out of a trap door and conked on the head so hard, he starts seeing magpies everywhere. Here are two original hand-painted backgrounds from this Eddie Donnelly-directed short, which was released on 11/2/48. The first is numbered 6 in the upper peghole area; this is the outside "trap door" Dimwit falls down, with the dynamite plunger base seen at the lower left; you can find this at the :49 mark. The second, numbered 11, is the medicine cabinet Doctor Clancy smashes into after popping Dimwit's knee with a mallet; it's found at the 2:14 mark. Terrytoon's backgrounds from this period are always beautifully painted in gouache on skimmed illustration board, with plenty of detail; these two pieces are no exception. Minor handling and edge wear; Very Good condition.
