DescriptionKeep 'Em Growing Production Background Group of 2 (Terrytoons, 1943).
Very unusual pair of background paintings! This WWII-era cartoon addresses the labor shortage in the US, due to so many young men serving in the armed forces. In this short, a Pig stands on the tree trunk in front of the house and tells the animals they all have to do their part to work the farm. (The result turned out a little better than in George Orwell's famous book about animals running the farm...) Mannie Davis directed this short, which was released on 7/28/43. This pair of hand-painted 12 field production backgrounds are in watercolor or gouache on heavyweight 13" x 10" animation sheets, with the "Terrytoons, Inc." stamp on the reverse on the first. The first is of a large sunset in a brilliant golden sky, with the furrows in a freshly plowed field, ready for seeding. And the second is a cutout - probably used for a "multiplane-type" effect, of a field of cabbages, fading away into the distance! Top is labeled "T-346" and has minor remnants of adhesive along the top border, main image left unaffected. Both are in Fine condition.
