Description

Inside Outer Space (Man in Space) Painted Production Backgrounds Group of 2 (Walt Disney, 1963). The Wonderful World of Color premiered this episode on 10/10/63. It was co-directed by Ham Luske and Ward Kimball, with Ludwig Von Drake as the animated host. This was the Season 9, Episode 19 show. It used major portions of Disney films "Man in Space," "Man and Moon," and "Mars and Beyond." Here is a rare pair of detailed hand-painted production backgrounds of a rocket ready for launch off the coast. They were done by Bill Layne (1911 - 2005), a background artist at the Walt Disney Studios from 1942 through the 1970s. Backgrounds are painted in gouache on 16 field 3-peghole background boards measuring 16" x 12.5". The detail is so amazing, you actually think you are looking at photographs! Both are labeled Act I. Bill Layne's name and "Man in Space TV" is written in the bottom border. Artwork from any and all Disney Space, Moon, and Mars films are highly collectible. A clear acetate sheet is placed over each background. Minor handling and edge wear. Very Good condition. From the Joe Hale Collection.
