Description

Fight to the Finish Production Background Group (Terrytoons, 1947). It's Mighty Mouse vs. Oil Can Harry in this classic short, directed by Connie Rasinski. These are two hand-painted production backgrounds from this "operetta-style" cartoon, with dialogue completely sung, featuring the tiny Beaver River train station. Oil Can Harry is trying to convince Pearl Pureheart to marry him! The two backgrounds depict the interior of the station, before and after the fight between Harry and Mighty Mouse. In the first, the setting is pristine and well-kept; in the second, the chair to which Pearl has been tied is visible in the foreground and Harry has just crashed through the wall, due to a punch from Mighty Mouse! Gouache on 3-top hole peghole cardboard, each with a "Terrytoons Inc" stamp at the top (and additional stamps on the reverse). The art measures approximately 10" x 12", and is in Fine condition. Rare!

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
