Eyvind Earle Sleeping Beauty Maleficent and Diablo Background Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1959). "For the first time in 16 years, I shall sleep well!" says Maleficent to her pet raven, Diablo. This key scene is right after she leaves the Prince chained up in her dungeon, after she tells him of Princess Aurora's fate. Little does she know the three fairies are in the castle to free him! This is a rare hand-painted background Color Key/concept art piece that has it all: the Forbidden Castle, Maleficent, and Diablo! This is a wow of an original Eyvind Earle (1916 - 2000) gouache painting on illustration board measuring 14" x 6". The Disney Family Museum held a retrospective of Eyvind Earle's work in May of 2017, titled "Awakening Beauty: The Art of Eyvind Earle". Mr. Earle was the Art Director/Color Stylist on Sleeping Beauty, and a member of the background painting team as well. This is one stunning Earle original! He has hand-signed his work in bottom right corner. Tack holes in corners with minor handling wear.
