Eyvind Earle Sleeping Beauty Background Color Key Paintings Group of 2 (Walt Disney, 1959). "In a faraway land, long ago, lived a King and his fair Queen. Many years had they longed for a child, and finally their wish was granted. A daughter was born. They named her Aurora" The film opens with these words after a book opening, and we see from afar the "Sleeping Beauty Castle." Here are two exquisite Eyvind Earle hand-painted background Color Key/concept paintings that showcase the feel to this movie. Color Key #1 is the Castle seen from a distance through the forest trees. It has an amazing color palette, painted in gouache on illustration board measuring 12" x 6". The second painting is a detailed painting of the forest, similar in feel to where the Woodcutter's Cottage is located, and where Princess Aurora eventually meets the Prince. Earle's signature tree style is all over this gouache magnificent painting, on board measuring 14.5" x 6". Both pieces are hand-signed by Disney Legend Eyvind Earle (1916 - 2000). These rare pieces showcase the attention to landscaping and color in this film. Any and all Castle paintings by Mr. Earle are always in high demand. Tack holes in corners, minor handling wear.
