Description

Drafty Isn't It? Production Background (Warner Brothers, 1957). The high school version of perennial daydreamer Ralph Phillips (star of A to Z-Z-Z and Boyhood Daze) stars in this Army recruitment cartoon directed by Chuck Jones. This is an original hand-painted production background of the ultra-modern office Ralph dreams will be his once he achieves greatness after high school graduation. Unfortunately, his dreams are constantly interrupted by a dark looming figure representing the military draft. Warner Brothers had a long tradition of creating animated shorts for the U.S. Military, both for instruction and recruitment. This incredible space-age image is attributed to Jones' animation unit background painter Phil DeGuard. It is painted in gouache and measures 13" x 10". The details in this magnificent representation of a futuristic world are truly amazing and can be seen around the 0:54 mark of the cartoon, which is available on YouTube. The one-of-a-kind artwork is framed under glass with a mat opening of 13" x 10" in a 23.5' x 20" frame. Condition is Very Good. Frame is sold as-is.
