Donald's Cousin Gus Interior Pan Background Painting (Walt Disney, 1939). "This is your cousin Gus. I'm sending him to visit you. Love Aunt Fanny. P.S. He doesn't eat much." What Aunt Fanny really means is there's not much Gus won't eat, in this Jack King-directed short that was released on 5/3/39. This short was written by Carl Barks and Jack Hannah. This is an unusual trimmed pan production background from this short, measuring 24" x 12". The figure portion can be seen around the 5:30 mark. The broken door, where Gus reenters the house through the back door for more food is around the 6:47 mark, but this additional painting, which someone from the studio glued (upside down, we might add) to the background, was not used. The door break in the cartoon did not include the umbrella. Background is marked RM 21 Scene 72 on the reverse. An "OK" stamp is on the top right top border. Gouache on pan trimmed background board. Note the paintbrush cleaning marks on the right border. Minor handling and edge wear; pinholes in corners. Very Good condition.
